Join us for a 3-day weekend backpacking trip on the Tecumseh trail in the Morgan-Monroe State Forest and Yellowwood State Forest. We will plan to meet at the Hickory Shades Motel in Belmont and then shuttle to the Fox Den Shelter area to begin our trip. The first night we will stay in the Charlie’s Shelter & Indian Hill-Plum Creek Camping area. Because the days will be shorter, Friday will only be about 8 miles however we will hike to filter water and then head back to our camp. Saturday we will backpack to the Yellowwood Campground, approximately 10.4 miles and we will have running water at the campground. Sunday will be a short day of about 4.1 miles and once we are back to Hickory Shades Motel, we then head into Nashville for pizza before heading home.
This trip will be for everyone to provide their own food and if you need ideas, we are happy to assist. Depending upon the participation and where everyone is coming from, some of us will plan to stay at the Hickory Shades Motel in Belmont, our ending point, the night before the trip begins. More details will come later once we have a head count of who is attending.
This trip will be good for those who are ready to move on from a beginner type event and hike longer with your pack on a moderate trail but not quite ready for elevation changes like the Knobstone Trail. Or for those who just want to get out for a long weekend in the fall.
Questions may be submitted to ciwcinfo@gmail.com.
All trip participants must fill out and submit a CIWC Medical Form and Long Waiver Form.
Effective on all trips, there will be a $30 non refundable registration fee. This fee will be assessed to those who sign up for a trip, get on the roster and then later cancel. Even cancelling before the cancel date. Those who never make the active roster (i.e. those who stay on the waitlist) will NOT be charged the $30 cancellation fee.
