Join us for 5 days of hiking on new reroute of The North Country National Scenic Trail through the Porcupine Mountains in The Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Participants will receive credit for 50.5 of the 100 Miles for the North Country Trail hike 100 challenge.
The hike is 5 days long with daily mileage of between 8 to 12 miles. There are some large hills to climb but much of the trail follows River. There will be several water crossings that will need to be forded. The new reroute follows the most beautiful parts of the park with numerous waterfalls and goes along the escarpment with a breathtaking view of Lake of the Clouds and Lake Superior. We will begin at Black River Harbor after camping there the first night and the hike will east to M-64 the dividing line between the Porcupine Mountains and the Trapp Hills.
Three nights of camping will be in state parks, one will be in a national forest campground. Included in the fee is a one night in a motel (2 per room) so we can clean up before the ride home. Transportation is included with 2 private vehicles. All meals are the responsibility of the participant, but we may have a meal making workshop prior to the trip. There will not be cell phone coverage for much of the hike, but your trip leaders will have emergency communication devices. Overnight backpacking experience is required with ability to complete daily mileage of 10 miles or more.
Questions may be submitted to email@example.com.
All trip participants must fill out and submit a CIWC Medical Form and Long Waiver Form.
Effective on all trips, there will be a $50 non refundable registration fee. This fee will be assessed to those who sign up for a trip, get on the roster and then later cancel. Even cancelling before the cancel date. Those who never make the active roster (i.e. those who stay on the waitlist) will NOT be charged the $50 cancellation fee.
