Level 2: Primarily applies to trips in which we carry only day packs. In one day, we can hike up to 9 miles and 4500 feet of elevation gain on maintained trails, or up to 7 miles and 2000 feet of elevation gain on more rugged, less-maintained trails. While considering your participation in CIWC trips, be aware that some trips will involve shared transportation, lodging, and other activities. Each participant is encouraged to evaluate your comfort level with such arrangements based on your health condition, vaccination status, and unknown COVID positivity rates at the time of the trip.  Members are encouraged to review the COVID waiver as a part of this evaluation.

Planning food for your backcountry adventure can be a challenge. You want tasty, easy to prepare meals that are light weight.  It’s possible to achieve all these objectives, but it requires some planning and preparation.  This week-end workshop will help you learn various methods for preparing and cooking food in the back country, including, dry mixes, dehydrated foods, and specialty ingredients.  We’ll taste test our recipes and you’ll come home with enough sample meals for a three-day backpacking trip and a cookbook of recipes you can use on all your upcoming trips.

To make our weekend even better, we will have the workshop at the beautiful Bradford Woods. The wooded recreation and education property near Martinsville has more than 10 miles of hiking trails to enjoy. We will take a night hike on Friday night and a longer day hike on Saturday while our food is dehydrating.  Our accommodations in Agape Lodge will offer us comfortable environment with a cozy fireplace. Housing will be in shared rooms with two or three people to a room.

This workshop is designed for any member that wants to enhance their outdoor skills.   The price includes lodging in Agape Lodge, all meals, and all food used in the back country meal preparation.

Questions may be submitted to ciwcinfo@gmail.com.

All trip participants must fill out and submit a CIWC Medical Form  and Long Waiver Form.

Effective on all trips, there will be a $50 non refundable registration fee. This fee will be assessed to those who sign up for a trip, get on the roster and then later cancel. Even cancelling before the cancel date. Those who never make the active roster (i.e. those who stay on the waitlist) will NOT be charged the $50 cancellation fee.
