Spend one night backpacking in the Hoosier National Forest near Story, Indiana. It’s Mother’s Day on Sunday, so we will meet Friday afternoon (approximately 4:00 PM) and will backpack to our campsite 1 mile from a parking area. The trail is a multi-use trail and climbs to the top of a ridge. There are 2 short sections that can be wet, and the use of hiking poles are advised, as well as footwear that you feel comfortable walking in mud or wet leaf debris. We will set up camp for the night, have dinner, learn about campfire safety and protecting food from critters. In the morning we will have a short hike to a breakfast spot, filter water, and prepare breakfast. After breakfast we will break camp and hike back to the parking area. We will day hike at a nearby Nature Preserve, using just a daypack that would hold your water bottle and your emergency items.
Don’t have gear? That’s no problem as CIWC has tents and other gear you can borrow. CIWC will provide the stove and water filter. Suggested gear list will be provided by your trip leader.
Dinner and breakfast will be provided by the leaders. Participants will need to bring their own lunch, snacks, eating utensils, bowl, cup and water bottle.
All trip participants will be expected to submit a medical form, sign a waiver and complete emergency information documents prior to participation.
CIWC Medical Form and Unified Waiver Form
After registration leaders will communicate additional details.
