The Superior Hiking Trails a 310-mile long footpath in northeastern Minnesota that follows the ridgeline overlooking Lake Superior for most of its length. On this trip we will complete about 50 miles of the trail. Our first day will be travel as we head to Minnesota.  The next morning, we will begin our hike on the Superior Hiking trail part of the North Country National Scenic Trail.

We will backpack five days back to the van after being shuttled. Many sections of the trail are very challenging with steep up and downhills, but you will also experience many scenic views of Lake Superior and inland forests. There are many stream crossings including a bridge over High Falls of Baptism River, the highest falls entirely in Minnesota. The Superior hiking trail goes through several forest types on its path up the north shore of Lake Superior so the scenery will change day to day.

Daily Mileage will be no more than 12 miles.  Maximum elevation gain will be 1800 feet and the trail is somewhat rocky. This is Bear Country, and a sighting is possible so we will take preventative measures to secure our food.

After backpacking we will stay in a campground and have a day to explore and hike Eagle Mountain. We will start heading home on Sunday and arrive back on Monday, Labor Day.

We will have at least one practice hike to discuss the trip review gear and make sure that everyone is physically ready for the trip.

Everyone will be responsibility for all their own food, although we will hold a workshop if you would like to pre-prepare meals.  The trip cost includes transportation in the club van, transportation, and use of club gear.
