On Friday Jan 10, join us for a short 3.5 hour drive to one of Ohio’s most beautiful state parks, Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio. We will then check into adjacent modern cabins to unwind and prepare for our Saturday adventure.
Saturday morning after enjoying a hot cooked breakfast we will depart our cabins to explore the miles of streams, waterfalls, and caves that makeup this park. In January the streams and waterfalls are usually frozen creating a spectacular winter wonderland. For this reason Yak Trax or similar footwear items are required and trekking poles are recommended. We will be walking on ice for much of the day. Because the intent is too explore a winter wonderland, cold weather gear (hats, gloves, etc) will be required
Hocking Hills Park consists of 7 major attractions that can be driven too, ensuring that no more than1 hour at a time will be spent outside if conditions are too cold. We will be walking on easy trails at a slow pace, specifically to ensure we operate safely on icy trails. In the unlikely event weather conditions get above freezing, we will adjust and incorporate some additional hiking to ensure we maximize our time.
On Sunday morning before departing for home their will be an opportunity, to explore other nearby caves and waterfalls based on the desires of the group.
Meals provided by the club include Saturday breakfast and dinner, and Sunday breakfast.
Meals the club members are individually responsible for include Friday dinner (at a restaurant tbd en route to Hocking Hills), Saturday lunch (from your backpack and eaten on the trail) and Sunday lunch (en route on our return home).
All trip participants must fill out and submit a CIWC Medical Form and Long Waiver Form.
Effective on all 2019 trips, there will be a $50 nonrefundable registration fee. This fee will be assessed to those who sign up for a trip, get on the roster and then later cancel, even cancelling before the cancel date.
