Join us on a weekend of day hiking in Red River Gorge. The hikes are for intermediate hikers, they are not suited for beginners. The trails are rated as moderate but there are steep cliffs, no handrails, not suitable if heights are challenging for you. A section of Auxier Ridge is narrow, some areas on the trails require sure- footing. We will be staying in a beautiful 3 level cabin full of amenities.
Saturday’s hike will be just under 9 miles with an elevation 1,750 ft - Courthouse Rock to Double Arch via Axuier. Courthouse Rock is noted as one of the most recognizable geologic features in RRG. Sunday’s hike will be just over 5 miles - Gray’s Arch. ‘All Trails’ has rated Auxier Ridge Trail to Courthouse as #1 of 96 Trails and Gray’s Arch Trail Loop as #2 of 96 Trails. We will see some of the best landmarks in RRG, there will be plenty of opportunities for great views.
Friday we will depart from Indianapolis, time to be determined. We will stop for dinner, dinner will be your expense. Saturday we will provide breakfast and dinner. You are responsible for your lunch, snack and water, we will stop for lunch on the trail. Sunday we will provide breakfast. You are responsible for your lunch, snack and water, we will stop for lunch on the trail. Depending on schedule and timing of departure we could stop for dinner, dinner would be your expense.
We plan to have a least one practice hike prior to this trip.
All trip participants must fill out and submit a CIWC Medical Form and Long Waiver Form.
