This 3 day trip to Red River Gorge is an intermediate backpacking trip. Campsites are first come first serve so we will plan to leave Indianapolis about 9am on Friday, September 26, 2019, from a carpool location TBD based upon participants who sign up.
The plan is to hike the Koomer Ridge trail to the first primitive campsite on the Rough Trail near Chimney Top Road approximately 5-6 miles. We will set up camp and then prepare dinner as well as a campfire for the evening. The next morning we make breakfast, packup and continue on the Rough Trail to the Pinchem Tight trail to the primitive campsites near Grays Arch approximately 4-5 miles. Be prepared for a change in plans depending upon availability of campsites. We will then setup camp and prepare a campfire and dinner. If time allows, we may go for a short hike exploring the area.
Sunday morning, we will pack up early and be out of the campsite by 9am and hike back to the van. This will be approximately 7 miles. We will then head to Miguels Pizza for lunch which is on your own.
We should be able to arrive back in Indy by 7pm. Sooner depending upon when we pack up and head back to the van Sunday morning and after lunch.
The trip fee includes transportation in the club van, 2 breakfasts and 2 dinners on the trail and other fees. Lunches and trail snacks, meals in route and post hike at Miguel’s are at participant’s expense.
All trip participants must fill out and submit a CIWC Medical Form and Long Waiver Form.
