While considering your participation in CIWC trips, be aware that some trips will involve shared transportation, lodging, and other activities. Each participant is encouraged to evaluate your comfort level with such arrangements based on your health condition, vaccination status, and unknown COVID positivity rates at the time of the trip.  Members are encouraged to review the COVID waiver as a part of this evaluation.

Join us for a nice summer paddle/camping weekend at Lincoln Trail State Park in Marshall, IL. We will meet at Lincoln Trail State Park (LTSP) at Noon CST (1 pm EST) on Saturday. From there we will find our campsite, set up camp, then spend 2-4 hours on the water. We will go over basic paddling skills and safety. Personal Flotation Devices (PFD) are required. If you have your own canoe or kayak, feel free to bring it. The park does have a couple of tandem aluminum canoes and some kayaks to rent if you do not have your own. This is not included in the cost. We will explore the lake which is a small and usually quiet place. The campsite will not have electric, but will have water and restrooms. We will also learn various ways to build a fire, set up a tarp, filter water, learn leave no trace principles, and will prepare a backcountry dinner and breakfast.

Don’t have gear? CIWC has tents you can borrow and we will share some club-provided group gear, such as stoves, water filters and equipment to make hot water. Participants are responsible for their own lunch and snacks.

All trip participants will be expected to submit a medical form, sign a waiver and complete emergency information documents prior to participation.

CIWC Medical Form and Unified Waiver Form

Cost is $25 for dinner, breakfast and use of club gear. Participants will bring their own lunch, snack and drink items. Gear lists and trip details will be emailed prior to the trip. Some club backpacks and tents may be available for loan on a first come, first served basis.

After registration leaders will communicate additional details.
